UPSC Exam Pattern

Preliminary Examination

UPSC CSE Prelims Exam is of objective type consisting of Multiple Choice Questions. Paper II (CSAT) is of qualifying in nature and candidates should score a minimum of 33 percent in this paper to qualify. Selection is made on the basis of marks scored in Paper I.

Mains Examination

The Main Examination consists of a written Examination. The questions of the Main Examination will be of conventional essay type. Paper A and Paper B are of qualifying nature and marks scored in the two papers are not considered for final ranking

Interview

Interview consists of 275 marks. Candidates who clear the Civil Services Main Exam with the set cutoff marks will qualify for the final stage of the exam i.e., the Personality Test or Interview round. The marks scored in the interview are added to the marks scored in the written examination (Mains) and the rankings of the candidates are determined on the basis of the total marks obtained
